I grew up in a really fun decade.
Just about to finish my holocaust essay and despite my grumblings and sinking feelings at all thoughts of tutorials/lectures/assignments/dso/readings/anything related to the actual subject I have learned much more than I have in many other history subjects. Particularly as I've always had a distinct interest in ww2, particular the horrors of the holocaust. For some reason I've just always been mindblown at the extent of genocide. Survivor Abel Herzberg was quoted as saying:
"There were not six million Jews murdered; there was one murder, six million times."
Of all the quotes, statistics, facts, figures, horror stories I've read those words had the most impact. Six million individual existences just vanished. One in two european jews completely eliminated. It's incomprehensible, but addictive once you begin to research individual stories. Also the stories of attempts at resistance such as the riots in the warsaw ghetto, the seventy odd escapees from treblinka concentration camp who were able to tell their friends what was going on in the camps, the french village Le Chambon-sur-Lignon who famously hid and saved the lives of five thousand jews, the Danish population refusing to comply with Nazi orders and relocating seven thousand jews to safety in Sweden. Oh there's so many stories, so little time to read them and so difficult to choose the best ones to explain in 3000 words how these people died.
Thanks to uni anyway for forcing me to choose subjects not media related I suppose to broaden my knowledge! Maybe... or maybe provide more journalism/industry related subjects so that I may actually get a media/journalism degree in the fairest way possible.
Off to write more history, watch more micallef show clips, listen to pulse.

Tess is in the gaarden,
Happy Tess. Things are so fantastic. Rory and I finally got our own radio show which begins tonight, I am listening to FANTASTIC new music, reading about history, went out for iced coffees with two completely different but brilliant in their own way women, sharpies soccer team WON last night, I only have a few weeks left of uni, the sun is shining, I'm moving to the big smoke next year, my life is starting, I'm fit well and healthy and young. Life's so good. There's always little hurdles to get over, and things to get over and mature and get past, but all in all, I'm in the best place to really make something of myself. So go everything.
Tess is happy and going to wallow in this joy, listen to more miike snow and read some slighty depressing stuff but still feel good!

Rumi
The other evening I met a little boy who was the most adorable thing in the world. I started chatting to his parents who were an extremely cool hippy duo all about global focus and all things awesome, and found out his name was Rumi after a 13th century poet. Very cool. I thought I'd look into this man, who was born in Afghanistan and a lot of scribblings are very religious based which is not so much my thing, but a lot of them are about love and knowledge.
Soul Recieves From Soul- Rumi
Soul receives from soul
that knowledge,
therefore not by book
nor from tongue.
If knowledge of mysteries
come after emptiness of mind,
that is illumination of heart.
Soul receives from soul

therefore not by book
nor from tongue.
If knowledge of mysteries
come after emptiness of mind,
that is illumination of heart.

How curious you are to me.
One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking and he said boys I'm not turning
I'm headin for a land that's far away beside the crystal fountains
So come with me we'll go and see the Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hens lay soft boiled eggs
The farmer's trees are full of fruit and the barns are full of hay
Oh, I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall and the wind don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain

Listening to old hilarious blues, just had a fresh drop dead fred watching experience, room's fairly clean (ish), reminiscing on a fantastic 2008, quilt, water, whitey, shaun micallef clips, life is sweet. Things are going so swimmingly for me. Someone mentioned this week we have a mere THREE WEEKS left of uni. EVER. Oh wow. I know. It's all very exciting. I've really reached the end of my essay writing/lecture dwelling (or not so much anymore) capabilities and am itching to be free of this university thing for good. I have been extremely lucky to have been able to study so many varied things from PR (ew though.), criminology, sociology (ew though.), journalism, media, history of the war, holocaust history, politics. I've loved it really and met the most incredible like-minded human beings which is always not only comforting but exciting. However, these uni gang members will be in my life from now on and I don't feel I need to cling onto this lifestyle of no cash and extra stress for any particular reason now. Bring on summer working hanging out party fun.
I've been reading Tess of the D'urbevilles and am really enjoying it regardless of Thomas Hardy's tendancy to use 1829 words when he could have just used one appropriate word. In spite of this, she is so very similar in her ideals to me. She's but a mere dairymaid, OR IS SHE?!
'Crowds of men and women attired in the usual costumes... How curious you are to me!'
Every now and then you're lucky enough to find someone that pops out of the masses. Lucky I am to have met so many, and excited about who might be the next addition into my circle. Oh I am feeling loose and jazzy fresh about everything.
Here's my Shaun Micallef hit for the evening, oh his voice. And Elton John I wouldn't lock the door from the other side.
Goodnight all.
