bookworming around

Tuesdays with Morrie wisdom:

`The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.

`Same for loneliness: you let go, let the tears flow, feel it completely - but eventually be able to say, ‘All right, that was my moment with loneliness. I’m not afraid of feeling lonely, but now I’m going to put that loneliness aside and know that there are other emotions in the world, and I’m going to experience them as well.

`By throwing yourself into these emotions, by allowing yourself to dive in, all the way, over your head even, you experience them fully and completely. You know what pain is. You know what love is. You know what grief is. … I have experienced that emotion. I recognize that emotion. Now I need to detach from that emotion for a moment.

`Life is a series of pulls back and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to do something else.

A Thousand Splendid Suns beauty:

`She was leaving the world as a woman who had loved and been loved back. She was leaving it as a friend, a companion, a guardian. A mother. A person of consequence at last. This was a legitimate end to a life of illegitimate belongings.

`One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.

`Boys, Laila came to see, treated friendship the way they treated the sun: its existence undisputed; its radiance best enjoyed, not beheld directly

The Kite Runner gold:

`For you... a thousand times over.

`And that's the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too.

`She said, 'I'm so afraid.' And I said, 'why?,' and she said, 'Because I'm so profoundly happy, Dr. Rasul. Happiness like this is frightening.' I asked her why and she said, 'They only let you be this happy if they're preparing to take something from you.

The thing I love about reading is just trying to figure out how these characters that you become totally immersed in, will end up. What will happen to them? What will happen to you in your own story? These three books have just completely opened up my eyes to not only what's happening in Afghanistan or their history, or the thoughts of a lovely, clever man on his death bed, but just about stuff.

I enjoy new perspectives, and especially when it can be a perspective of a thousand miles away and you still relate to the feelings of those people, you still can imagine yourself in their shoes and dealing with those situations. The last two do make you realise how incredibly lucky you are to end up in the life that you have ended up in, in the body you're in, with the looks you have, with the family & friends that you have somehow managed to find a connection with, with a healthy mind & the interest of learning new things, with access to resources that enable you to do so.

Being born the person you are is not simply a blessing or an act of a higher power, it is luck and with your own faith about other humans and the world you are born into, it is YOUR life to mould and shape and make rules for. You make the rules for your own existence, you cannot read scriptures, or the word of someone you've never met and take it for Gospel, assuming that in a Modern age that occurrences that may or may not have happened thousands of years ago could possibly work in full, right now in the time we are living in.

Whether you're Catholic, Sunni or Shia Muslim, Protestant, Jew or just a curious person who wants to learn and debate things with themselves, then read Christopher Hitchen's 'God is Not Great', he is an incredible writer & debater and is so clever, and very very open minded and accepting of other people's beliefs, with the hope of others being accepting of him. Oh, what a wonderful world it would be!

I have to go watch the IT crowd and go to sleepies!

three- fiddy.

Bird & The Bee covering the Bee Gees = perfection.

I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again

And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love and then softly leave
And its me you need to show

How deep is your love
I really need to learn
cause were living in a world of fools
Breaking us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest darkest hour
You're my saviour when I fall
And you may not think
I care for you
When you know down inside
That I really do
And its me you need to show

I love uni, am so glad to be back there. Dani is home with us, hurrah! Manny is back on the roads, the best! Got up to Moonee Ponds, always my favourite. Go go everything.

lone wolf, at it again.

Perhaps it's the sweet scent of calvin klien, or polo blue or aqua di gio coming from somewhere over my body & bag, but I am feeling fine! Fine said with a lot of sass. Had a great day op shopping and real-dawdling shopping with angel, hi sushi, and bizarrely enough running into EVERY single person imaginable. It's crazy when you think of a person and then, bam! There they are. Perhaps I should put that to the test & try and make myself even happier. I am finally back to feeling cool about being a loner ha ha, it's good to be the only person on the planet that knows anything about you.

It's cool that every single person you meet will know something different about you, or feel differently towards you, because the next time you see that particular person you have a special connection just with them. PLUS I'm off to a movie with chloe, and I really love the movies. And Chloe, so this could only lead to wonderful things. PLUS my amazing blue shirt I bought today for TWO DOLLAR, it's beautiful. PLUS I have moose's 21st, work, funny hat cuppa club tomorrow, got paid more than i thought I would, a ticket to Vfest, a fresh head of hair, emma's birthday and out on sunday night, pub crawl next week, almost reunion with the uni gang & an incredible tale of jen's stalkerish acts towards nick, my sister's coming home from dublin in one week, the disciples are down from brisbane in April, I get to re-do an entire room next week and make it my own again, I have a great list of movie club movies that have watching to be done, a book list to get stuck into, new clothes & the impending cooler weather to look forward to.

Regardless of any little issue, things are pretty great & I should stop overthinking everything, and trying to be thoughtful and worry about the future or what will happen in two months, or six, or a year, because there's no way I could control that anyway, even if I attempted to, everything will be different even one week from now.

Life's good.

I want to think someone's beautiful,
That they're so beautiful it's a thrill to be near them.
Fill my stomach with butterflies,
have me floating on air,
Bring something out of me I didn't know was there.
But it's such a torturous thing
That I am not excited by anyone!

Amen Of Montreal!

Rockin' The Casbah

So many people telling me one way
So many people telling me to stay
Never had time to have my mind made up
Caught in a motion that I don't wanna stop

I'm baaack. I feel much better than my two-week-ago self. I feel much more settled & comfortable again, and things are getting back to normal, in the best possible normal way, not the mundane, lonely awkward one. There is so much stuff going on right about now, I am busy all the time and always doing something, and I love it.

Happiest of birthday wishes to Amy & Clare :) two of my most loyal and most hilarious companions.

It's so frustrating wanting to download a song but being completely unable to, Delphic where are you?! Wonderful band, supporting Bloc Party on tour at the moment, and their song Counterpoint is v. cool & listenable.

Monday's the meeting day, where the great ideas we have might actually be able to be put into action, and then it will be upwards from there for the show, all the way to total world (national) domination! cue evil laugh. I also will be donating blood in the afternoon, and trying to go through my cupboard and get rid of some clothes that I rarely wear anyway, as it's try & help out with the fires crisis in any, albeit small, way that you can. My sister will, if all goes to plan, be helping out there in a very very massive way, so it will be good to get involved with.

Watch Sia's film clip for Buttons, it's mesmerizing

Tess is going to finish Amy's birthday Box, get dolled up and go and have fun with the original gang.

One week on from returning to Europe. The best thing I've ever done easily. What does it have to compare to really?! London, Dover, Calais, Paris, Lauterbrunnen, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Venice, Verona, Salzburg, The Rhine Valley, Edinburgh, Dublin, Berlin, Lisbon, Lagos, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Galway. Poodle, Thriller, Act Natural, The Disciples, Your Boyfriend (Turtlebrow), Hostel Pasta, ever interesting hostel roomies, Strawberry Dacuiris, Ghostbusters, Last Christmas, Angel Snow Beast, Snow/Fat Cat, Juke Box, Kareoke, Lady Marmalade, Fat Hobbit.

Too many things, more will have to come later.

I just turned around to look out the window, and it's incredibly spooky. All of the lights must be out over near the bridge, and there is nothing but mist & darkness. Perfect for some sort of Horror movie filmage, or watching. Maybe it's the lack of car, the hot weather, the ill feeling, the no money, the post-holiday blues but I'm not right. Lone Ranger central. Always going to get comfortable and then be stuck. I think I should get used to that, and not be disappointed with people or in the way they've acted, because it's only ever your own fault. I think I'll do a myspace quiz to take my mind off things.

That wasn't really as interesting as I had hoped, this huge big epic trip of Europe is done now. Home I am, very happy to be so, however before I left I was very settled and now I feel completely the opp
osite. Uni will be brilliant, and the Radio show and hopefully the promotions thing will kick start something exciting & different. I am going to accept being a lone ranger and deal with it, by floating around, having fun & having a real crack at things. I have a feeling this year will be very interesting, and I think it could be the most fun & the most successful one yet. Go 2009!

Joke of the day, 3rd Feb, 2009:
